Jingle Bells

       Jingle Bells :
Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Brief history of our college..!!!

The College is named after St. Peter, the apostle of peace and harmony. The College derives its inspiration from St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s Orthodox Syrian Church, Kolenchery. It was in the meeting held on 9th February 1964 at this church the idea of applying for a Junior College in Kolenchery was mooted. A committee consisting of Sri. C.P. Issac (Chairman), Sri. P.M. Paily Pillai (Secretary) and Sri. C. V. Jacob (Treasurer) was authorised to proceed with the dream project. Sanction for a Junior College came through the letter No. G. C2/2879/63 dated 1-7-1964. The sincere and dedicated leadership given in the past by people like Sri. M. Chacko Pillai, Sri. K.V. Thomas, Sri. N.P. Varghese, Sri. P.M. Paily Pillai, Sri. C.P. Issac, Sri. K.E. Issac, Sri. K.P. Paulose, Sri. E.M. Varkey, Dr. C.T. George etc. had made St. Peter’s college, a reputed educational Institution.

The College is located approximately 30 kilometers east of Cochin, Kolenchery was once a remote village with educationally backward inhabitants. The starting of the college was a boon to the rustic inhabitants of the locality. Besides producing thousands of graduates and postgraduates, uplifting the educationally backward people, the college has been the cause of ushering a new look to Kolenchery with many business establishments, banks, government offices and even a Medical College, and made it a beautiful township. The well-wishers of the college believe that the phenomenal growth of this institution is due to the invisible blessings of our Patron Saints, St. Peter and St. Paul. Ever since its beginning in 1964, the college management and the staff, through their consistent and untiring efforts, have produced citizens excelled as administrators, executives, clergymen, businessmen, doctors, engineers, lawyers and a host of other professionals. The college is now affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, and is accredited at the four star level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of the U.G.C.
The college started functioning in July 1964 with five batches of Pre-Degree students. It earned a good reputation in a short span of time and its fame spread all over Kerala, and produced international sports persons and academicians, all in quick succession that the college was upgraded as a Degree College in 1967. It has the rare privilege of starting undergraduate courses in eight subjects in that year itself. The college became a post graduate institution in 1982 with the beginning of M.Sc. course in Botany. It now offers Degree courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Economics, History, Politics, Malayalam, English, Hindi and Commerce, Post Graduate courses conducted in the college are Botany, Mathematics, Commerce, English, Bio-Technology, Malayalam and Tourism Administration. The college at present has a student strength of 1560. There are 103 members on the Teaching Staff and 48 members on the Non-teaching staff.

History of kottappady.....

History of kottappady which i comes from....

The village Kottappady is now in the Kothamangalam taluk of Ernakulam district of Kerala State. It belonged to the erstwhile Royal State of Travancore. There existed a civilized society of Christians in the area at least from the latter part of eighteenth century. Most of them were predominantly farmers or traders. They owed their spiritual allegiance and un-conditional loyalty to the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East from time immemorial and followed all sacraments and liturgy of Syrian Jacobite traditions. Their spiritual needs were met from the Mother Church of St.Mary’s Jacobite Church, Kuruppampady and later from the Hebron Church of Nagancherry nearby.

Before the capture of the Sovereign by Marthanda Varma Maharaja in AD 1750, this place had been under the rule of Karthas of Kottayil Family. The Karthas ruled the place with extensive powers to exterminate or expatriate people who opposed them. Kartha is a Nair title name derived from Karthavu which means Lord and it was conferred by the King to some powerful Nair families who enjoyed Raja or Naduvazhi status.

The title Kartha appears also to have been used initially as a titular name by some of the rulers of Madura in Tamil Nadu.  In Kerala, the Tekkumkur and Vadakkumkur Rajas are believed to have first conferred the title Kartha on certain influential Nair families blood related to the Rajas. In social matters the authority of the Kartha was supreme, and it was only on important points that higher authorities were called on to intercede. All the Karthas belonged to sub-divisions of the Nair caste. They also owned large extents of land and entrusted it to tenants for cultivation.  The Kartha surname is still used, although it is not very prominent.

The name Kottappady is derived from the family name of Karthas who ruled the place for long-the Thazhassery Kottayil Karthas. They probably belonged to Vattakkattu Akathootu Kottayil Karthas, which was one of the well known families of Karthas in the Travancore- Cochin area. Kottappady refers to the front courtyard or portico of the ruler’s house. They belonged to the Samanta Kshatriya group.

By the end of eighteenth century, a large number of Syrian Christians and even Namboothiris fled to central and south Kerala following the attacks of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. They settled in areas where Syrian Christians lived. A few of them reached Kottappady also.
